Since I'm about (with any luck) to upgrade my machine from 512K to 2 megabytes, I thought I'd send out this question to the folks who already have large memory systems -- How do you use all that memory? What kind of configurations have you found to work well -- using Switcher? Large cache spaces? RAM disks? Any and all suggestions welcome -- I'm looking for ideas to use as a basis for putting together my own working set. chuq Chuq Von Rospach chuq@sun.COM Delphi: CHUQ Touch Not the Cat Bot a Glove -- MacIntosh Clan Motto

Good question, Chuq, and I am looking forward to hearing replies from other large system users. Anyway, here's how I utilize my 2Meg: (1) Since I've got a floppy only system, I use an 800K RamDisk with System 4.1 et al, at least 2 point sizes of each LaserWriter+ font, Imagewriter, Laserwriter, and Preview print drivers, plus various DAs (especially recommended is CE Software's Disktop 2.0). (2) 128K RAM cache, which is a commonly recommended size (one also sees 96K bandied about) - larger sizes seem at times to slow things down as much as they speed them up. (3) This leaves a floppy free for my most used programs & switcher, and another drive free for document disks. There's about 820K free memory to play with, which is generally more than enough for my purposes. -- Jeff Myers: University of Wisconsin Law School Nerds, Inc.
