[comp.sys.mac] Help with PostScript output on remote printer

krm@aluxz.UUCP (Kurt Marko) (07/07/87)

I'm having problems printing PostScript files generated on my
Mac on a remote laser printer (QMS PS800, a LaserWriter equivalent).
I'm pretty sure this has been covered on the net previously,
but since I haven't been a Mac owner for too long, I probably
didn't pay attention. Details:

I generate a PostScript file using the familiar "Command-K" option
after telling my application to print (with the LaserWriter driver
selected in Chooser). The PostScript file is then shipped to a
Vax (running Unix) via Kermit (either binary or text mode; it
doesn't seem to make much difference). I then ship the raw PostScript
file to the QMS with the appropriate command options telling the
printer to expect a PostScript file, and not do any filtering.
The printer acts like it is taking the file, but nothing gets
printed. I even tried inserting the extra font descriptions
posted by Jeff Meyer, ... but they didn't help.

I've used this same scheme to print PS files generated on a PC, so
I no it is possible, but what am I doing wrong? Does Laser Prep
expect some feedback from the printer (which is impossible since I'm
not on AppleTalk). Can I patch the PS file somehow to get it to
print on a remote machine? I'm really stuck because there is no
way I can connect my Mac to the PS printer. Any help will be
greatly appreciated.

P.S. Thanks to all who responded to my recent query on useful
Mac utilities, I'll post a short summary soon.
