[comp.sys.mac] Question on HP ThinkJet with a Mac +

kimman@pbhye.UUCP (K. T. Chang) (07/02/87)

Is there anyone currently using a Hewlett-Packard ThinkJet with a Mac?

What are the problems (speed, compatibility, etc) with the ThinkJet
(model 2225D) instead of the Imagewriter with a Mac Plus?

I want to use a HP ThinkJet for rough drafts: text, graphics and
source listings. Final copies will be done on a LaserWriter.

Is there a special printer driver I need, or does the Imagewriter
   Driver suffice (it probably doesn't).

   Thanks.

I used a 512k Mac with a model 2225D ThinkJet a couple of years ago. A
special driver IS required. The one I used was by:

    SoftStyle
    Suite 205
    7192 Kalanianaole Highway
    Honolulu, Hawaii 96825

I didn't use it much, but this is what I remember:

Installing the driver and using it was fairly easy. The print quality
was pretty good. On graphics the ThinkJet didn't seem to saturate the
paper with ink as easily as the Imagewriter can so dark graphics came out
nice and smooth.
One problem was that the ThinkJet prints the graphics at a different
resolution and possibly even a different aspect ratio. This resulted in the
output being compressed by a significant amount. I think it was compressed
by as much as %20.
The print speed was on par with the Imagewriter.
