Readers of net.micro.mac may remember in 1985 when I posted concerning my two power board failures in 1984/85. Well I did what the guy said, Don't leave the machine on for long periods of time, Use a fan. The machine made a 'nyit nyit......' (1hz sound) yesterday after some experiments I had done. Lo and behold after removing the cardboard template from behind the analog board were tiny circular cracks on the top and bottom pins of the 4-pin J1 connector. Using a 35watt Radio Shack iron (yeah a use for that beast!) I managed to resolder the pins. I also did the flyback too. It works now. I got the hint to check this after reading the June MacTutor. If you hack on the mac this journal is well worth every penny. It saved me >$100 already. The power board I speak of is an old one for a 128k mac. It even has the small flyback transformer as opposed to the larger one spec'd for the board but absent until later. Old maccer's check that board! You never know.
