[comp.sys.mac] Mac II Horrors, Part III

rs4u+@ANDREW.CMU.EDU (Richard Siegel) (07/14/87)

Things are really FUBAR. I did the following: configured
my HD 20SC with just a System Folder.

I found that my crashes upon system startup were due to MacsBug
version 5.3a12 (is that right?) -- the one suppliedwith MPW 2.0b1.
Macsbug users be warned.

Anyway, I removed MacsBug from the system folder, and booted up.
Everything boots fine. So I move a window in the Finder, then
reboot. Lo and behold, the hard disk is trashed again! Same symptoms.

So apparently, the ssytem will trash a hard disk with no provocation
whatsoever -- not nice.

I am assuming so far that this is all the result of an interaction between
the HD SC Setup v1.3 drivers and the damage done by DiskExpress 1.05./
I haven't figured out how to undo what DiskExpress did,, but I'll
be getting the new drivers bhy Thursday (I hope), so I'll try again then.

If anyone has had similar problems, or is interested in reproducing
this (I really doubt it! :-), please let me know...

Stay tuned.
