[comp.sys.mac] Mouse multiple clicks

hughes@endor.harvard.edu (Brian Hughes) (07/19/87)

I've seen this problem reported here before, but never saw
any followup. My SE is < 2 months old, and this problem has recently
appeared, and seems to be getting worse.
Problem: when I click the mouse, sometmes it sends two (or even
more) clicks. E.g., I select a point, but get the whole word, or even
the whole line selected; I click in the scroll bar arrow (once), but get
continuous scrolling until I move the mouse out of the arrow.
Does anyone know what causes the problem, and if there is any
simple fix besides asking the dealer to replace the mouse ? When I
take my SE in for its memory upgrade (Apple memory), I'll ask the
dealer 's repair people what they know of the problem.

If I receive enough replies, I'll summarize back to the net.

Thanks in advance.

The cure is to take it back to the dealer and get a new mouse. Since it is
<2 months old, it is still under warantee (sp). When you get the new
mouse, test it: bring up a dialog box and ssslllooowwwllly (as opposed to
merely sslloowwllyy :-) click the mouse on and off where there are no buttons.
If you get too many beeps, ask for yet another mouse. Repeat until you get
one which works, and then test it again shortly before the warantee expires.

There's nothing more useless than a Mac with a broken mouse, unless it's an
I.B.M.
