I'm developing several puzzles and games (a few of which are practically finished) and I'm wondering how to distribute them. Is shareware a good means of distributing a product? If so, what are some good outlets for shareware? EduComp? USENET? CompuServe? Do shareware authors generally receive the fee they request from a reasonable fraction of those who use their product? Are there benefits other than monetary ones that one might accrue by having a product distributed as shareware? If shareware isn't such a great idea, how else might one proceed?
