I just got a 1 floppy MacII, and after looking around a bit, found the CMS 80Mbyte Quantum drive to be the cheapest (vs. Relax and a few other brands--came in at $1,200). And since it's the same drive that Apple uses, and is an internal drive, shopping via price is the way to go on this one. Even if the company messes up and doesn't send you disk formatting software, you can use Apple's (make sure it's the latest version though! [Apple HD SC Setup 1.1 is what I'm using]). Re: monitors The sony works fairly well, though the colors are a bit off (cream instead of white). The NEC didn't work well at all (acted as if the mouse were a magnet, and the entire screen was waving at me). I'm told that there is a fix for the NEC; but if you are borrowing it and not purchasing, you'll probably not want to make any internal modifications. Re: software: I can't seem to get Illustrator to show color. Is it supposed to? Also, the Paris demo disks from BMUG are nice, though I'd love more. Is there any public archive of alert sounds, non-alert sounds, color pictures, color startup-screens, etc? Also, is there any way way to make a startup screen hang around as a desktop pattern? I talked with the folks at LaserPaint today, and they are promising a full color version soon--upgrade to it free. Also expect another color painting program from the folks who make the Chroma system fairly soon (if they are to be believed on their shipping dates). Anyone know of anything else??
