[comp.sys.mac] Sys 1.1G on an SE & other fun

An interesting observation and a question (to follow).

I was moving a programme from an 800K disk to 400K for a friend
when I discovered that the SE knows how to divide and conquer?
I have an SE-20Meg internal and he has a simple 512K with one 400K drive.

For fun, I booted the 800K disk in my SE. It was running 1.1G (EEE GGAAADS!).
But interestingly when the finder/system came up, there were two
copies of the disk icon on the screen.
Get Info said one was in the internal drive while the other was on Applebus.
One copy contained ONLY desktop and root files while the
other icon of the same disk contined ONLY the sub folders and their files.
This was full mutual exclusion of files and folders between the 2 icons.

My hard disk was also on Applebus which of course appeared empty except for
the Empty Folder folder but it was multi-gigabytes LARGE.

To say the least, this was rather weird looking but worked! No I didn't
try writing files, etc. I only ran the simple Application. (game)

Also, the action against my 20 Meg hard disk was a little scary.
(I didn't know if 1.1G would want to make my 20Meg MFS against my wishes.)
Even with Diskfit one doesn't want to play the Drive Restore game.

So, my questions.

1) Anybody seen the doubled disk icon before? Anybody know why?
(If this has been described on the net before, please excuse.)

2) How can I turn off the internal 20Meg? When I had a Plus and a Datframe
it was easy. But now, dangerous stuff can do immesurable damage.
I did look (a little) but did not find and way of turning on a MAC
but leave the internal 20Meg turned off (or at least off to the OS.)

Thanks for any help.

BTW I gaive a newer copy of system/finder (the pre-SE version) to my friend.

Better yet is to have 4 (and possibly more) icons coming up. This was
acheived by daisy chaining two Dataframes onto the SCSI bus, one having the
address "7". I am not sure whether there were 2 icons for each of the drives,
I scrambled for the power switch. I had this vision of a Fast Breeder Reactor
taking over the lab. It was only after this did I read in an obscure place
that lucky 7 is reserved for the Mac.
Now if this was only a solution to the information crowding problem.
