Please, net.posters, don't let this bickering over the Byte article degnerate into an argument over 80386 versus 68020! Which chip is faster really doesn't make a bit of difference; what *is* important is how fast a machine can complete a necessary task. For example, my Mac can do a Sieve almost as fast as a Vax 750. Does that make it almost as fast as a Vax 750? I doubt it. Furthermore, it's pretty useless to me when I need to do a 1024-point Fast Fourier Transform and the Vax can do the FFT two orders of magnitude quicker than the Macintosh can. My point is that this bickering is pointless and a waste of time and of disk space. Remember the Mac vs. Amiga argument a while back? Everyone can feel free to express a personal opinion, but don't clutter this newsgroup with it. And if you feel tempted to flame at me about saying what should and should not be posted to a newsgroup, then I recommend that you please send such flames to me directly, and I will respond appropriately -- in a manner that doesn't belong on a newsgroup. --Rich R-Squared Development Systems 134 Horseshoe Drive Williamsburg, Virginia 23185 (804) 229-2152 [After 6pm eastern time only] Arpanet: rs4u@andrew.cmu.edu Uucp: {your fave gateway}!seismo!andrew.cmu.edu!rs4u Disclaimer?
