Recently I posted a query about where to obtain a ball for your mouse when the ball wears out and the rubber covering starts delaminating from the steel underneath. This is a warning to those who may be exper- iencing the same problem: Don't get ripped off! You will be told: 1) Apple doesn't sell replacement balls, so it's $100 for a new mouse. 2) We "have some lying around, and I'll sell you one for $20." 3) Replacement mouse balls are available for about $7-8. All of the above are true depending on the competence level of your repair outfit and whether they are buddy-buddy with Apple. I got a new one through a parts center in a university department for $2.00. (That's 1/50 the cost of a new mouse.) -wiley "Ralph Nader" sanders PS The ball is exactly 1 inch in diam - maybe a steel ball bearing would do? Might be too slick. -- Wiley Sanders, Civil Engineering Dept, UT-Austin secret NSA CIA anti Soviet Iran terrorist nuclear drug decoder ring - take THAT, NSA line-eater!
