Judy Roberts and her band kicked off the WDCB "Jazz Mondays" benefit jazz concert series last night at the Oak Brook (Illinois) Hyatt TGs lounge. For the small entry price of $3, we got to hear two sets of excellent music by "Chicago's First Lady of Jazz". Judy has an excellent voice, and it's a shame she isn't getting national exposure. (She's not bad on piano, either.) The first set was taped, and broadcast later in the evening by WDCB, which received the proceeds from the concert. The only flaw was in the Hyatt's PA system, which insisted on playing along due to some noisy pots in the board. But after a few threats involving a sledgehammer, the board got wise and shut up. So, those of you who enjoy jazz, look for Judy's albums next time you're in your favorite record shop, and if you're in town, take the 'A Train' down to Oak Brook and help support one of the few remaining jazz stations. Monday evenings, sets are at 5 and 7. A different artist every week, and you can't beat the price. -- ) ( ) from the mildly opinionated keyboard of _)__________________ |OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO| Dave Seifert |OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO| ihnp4!ihuxl!seifert |_O_O_O_O_O_O_O_O_O_O_O_O_O_O_O_O_O_O|
