I'm in the market for a hard disk in the 40-Megabyte range. I've narrowed the field down to 3: 1. The Cirrus 40 from LaCie (formerly Kammerman Labs) can be had quite cheap, has great software, and is from a local company (just a few miles from here). The bad news is that the company has had some hard financial times recently and some folks question its long-term viability. I want to be sure my manufacturer will be around to support me two years from now. 2. The Rodime 45 is more expensive, but is supposed to be very reliable. It's 43 Megs instead of just 38 or 40, and it's available from two local dealers. However, it sits under the Mac and I'd much rather have a unit that sits beside it. 3. The Jasmine BackPac 40 is a little more expensive than the Rodime, but has the advantage of portability. However, it's brand new, so it has no track record. Also, I'd have to mail-order from Jasmine, which has had a few problems with speedy delivery. (This is the drive that intrigues me the most.) Does anyone out there have any experiences with any of these drives, or the companies that make them, that they'd like to share? In particular, has Jasmine cleaned up its act? Please respond via mail, and I'll summarize to the net. -- David D. Levine, formerly of Tektronix, now of Intel ...{decvax,ihnp4,hplabs}!tektronix!ogcvax!inteloa!inteloe!davidl P.S. Anybody have any experience yet with FastBack? Is it better than DiskFit?
