I think I may have found the problem with why my Peripheral Land PL30 Turbo Hard Disk (external) kept crashing, and I thought this might be useful to others of you out there. I was recently reading a copy of either MacUser or Electronic Musician (can't remember which) and while reading an article on music programs I read an article that had a paragraph that warned improper installation of copy-protected music software onto a hard-disk can cause system crashes (e.g. screen lock-up). Now what many of us do is to take out our floppies and click and drag the application file or folders over to the hard-disk. However, this may NOT always be correct for certain applications. Now upon reading this I went back to all my old user's documentation for my several copy-protected s/w packages and checked this. (You see, my Mac SE is the dual-floppy model, and since I didn't buy the hard-disk until several months after the SE, I never really thought about the possible different installation requirements of the s/w.) I found that Opcode's Midimac Sequencer 2.5 software DOES use a special installation procedure for installing it onto a hard-disk (this procedure is REAL NICE because afterwards you no longer need to put in the master floppy when you want to run the program off the hard-disk). Upon installing this per the owner's manual supplement I have had No system crashes (although I am going to play with the MAC A LOT this weekend to confirm this!!) If you are having problems with these type of system crashes and have copy-protected software loaded on your hard-disk, DOUBLE CHECK the owner's manual and any supplement that came with it to make sure you installed the software as per the manufacturer's instructions. This may not always be the answer to your problems, but it may help and can be useful in troubleshooting for yourself and others. I hope you find this useful. Jim Collymore
