Hi, I'm going to post this since I don't know how to reach apple directly. The other day I received Vol1#1 of the IEEE Standard Bearer, a new news letter put out by the IEEE to keep people abreast of the IEEE standards committees and their activities. On the last page there was an article by Jay Iorio (his phone was given as 212 705 7150) about electronic publishing at the IEEE standards office. He said the following: 1) by the end of 1988 the standards department expects to "become a showcase for some of the most exciting information-handling tecnology on the market." 2) they currently have 6 IBM PC, 2 laser printers, and are running MicroSoftWord. 3) they are setting up a 80386-based machine and an Apple LaserWriter+ 4) At the moment they can only read IBM PC 5.25inch diskettes. "If at all possible, avoid ... 3.5inch microfloppies..." The tone of the article suggest that they have NEVER HEARD of the APPLE MACINTOSH. I hope this disturbs you as much as it does me. The IEEE is going to make a showcase DTP setup based around the IBM PC (which is the follower in this field) with not a Mac in sight. If I were ever to send the IEEE an article, I'd have a difficult time because I use a Mac not an IBM PC. I hope that Apple might see it to be in their best interest to donate a Mac or two to the IEEE standards office so that their "showcase" reflected the best technology available. 'Nuff said.
