I'd like to report a most refreshing experience I recently had with SuperMac Technology. It started out rather ominously, when I tried to restore the contents of my DataFrame hard disk from its microfloppy backup using DiskFit, a backup/restore utility distributed by SuperMac, and Diskfit flatly refused. Having just initialized the DataFrame, I was not especially amused, as may have been evident when I called SuperMac. Nevertheless, they (in the person of Ms. Kathy Williams) apologized cheerfully, admitted that they'd been having some trouble with the early releases of DiskFit, and volunteered to send me the latest version free of charge. The next morning a new DiskFit disk arrived by Federal Express, and as soon as I fired it up the problem disappeared. In a perfect world, of course, software would never fail, but the minor inconvenience caused by the delay in restoring my DataFrame is far outweighed by SuperMac's willingness to take responsibility and make amends. No doubt this policy is expensive in the short term, but I hope it brings SuperMac enough additional business to make it up in the long term. They'll certainly have all the business I can give them. --Hamilton Richards (ham@sally.uucp) Department of Computer Sciences, cs.ham@R20.UTEXAS.EDU The University of Texas at Austin, ham@SALLY.UTEXAS.EDU Austin, Texas 78712-1188 512-471-9525
