Hi Folks,
Is it possible to insert your own phrases into the Talking Moose's
phrase file and if so how do you do it? Thanks again.

Yes, you can teach your moose new vocabulary. There's a neat little program (PD I believe) called moose phraser (sp?). It takes typed phrases and adds them to the phrase file. Its simple but ya have to type it like it sounds and I don't think you can test the sounds before adding them to the phrase file. If you can't find it in your local PD library send me a note and I'll search my archived stuff for it. I'm sure its on one of my backups somewhere. -Steve Neruda disclaimer: who cares anyway!

New phrases can be added by editing the STR# resources in the file "Moose Phrases" with ResEd or REdit. (I think the documentation to Talking Moose described a program called "Speech Lab" which could be used to test new phrases. I don't know where it's available, though...)

[ *** line eater bait *** ] The lates version of Talking Moose includes three DAs: the moose itself, a phoneme chart, and Speech Tester. Speech Tester is similar to SpeakDA, in that you can type English text into the top edit field, or the phonemes into the bottom fielld, and it will speak them (and convert the English to phonemes, if you changed the English field last). It talks with the moose, and you have to start up Talking Moose before Speech Tester does anything; but it does let you try out new phrases interactively. I generally use it to test new phrases and play around with the phonemes until it sounds right, then copy the phonemes into MockWrite for later use with Moose Frazer. John Abreau -- John M. Does anyone know about a dictionary of phonemes for use with MacinTalk? I'd like to be able to substitute a correct set of phonemes to properly pronounce commonly used words. I am sure that lots of people have stayed away from MacinTalk exploitation because the conversion routines that MacinTalk uses make your Macintosh sound like a retard.
