[comp.sys.mac] How To Backup Shadowgate

howard@mtunj.ATT.COM (H. Moskovitz) (10/05/87)

I just got Shadowgate and I love it. Problem is: it is copy protected (big
surprise:')) I was allowed to copy the second disk with the database on
it to my hard disk. However the application would not cooperate. When
I bit copy the #1 disk using Copy II Mac (version 5.4) the last track
returns a status code of 'L' regardless of what options I use and the
resultant copy loads the program and then reboots the system.

Has anyone out there successfully backed up the #1 disk from
Shadowgate, and if so how? If using Copy II Mac, which version did you
use and what tricks were necessary. I love the game but don't want to
risk ruining the master disk.

				Thanks in advance.

Yeah, I'm pretty ecstatic about the game, too! Best $40 I wasted :-). But
seriously folks, great game, excellently executed, but big-time copy
protection... I NEED to back up my disks! In the dorms here, we just got
$350 phones that have a 300-19200 baud Hayes compatible modems, and a
separate dataline from the voice line, but... they generate a hell of a lot
of magnetic waves! I have lost sevaral disks by way of kind souls returning
them, not to my disk holders, but rathers 2 inches from the phone. Needless
to say, when someone was about about to put my Shadowgate package (they hold
the disks nicely) there, I found myself practically smacking it out of their
hands. I have realized that I am desperate to back up disk #1.

I have tried everything I know, and if all else fails, I may call up
Mindscape and order a backup...

If anyone has successfully backed up Shadowgate, PLEASE post you replies to
the net!!!

The most recent version of Copy II Mac that I know about is 7.0. It is now
supposed to function correctly on all Macs - something previous versions didn't
do. In this case, since your last version was 5.4, it's probably worth the $18
to upgrade.
