My New Mac II wouldn't boot from the hard disk but it would do everything else:
I FOUND THE PROBLEM!
As I said before, when booting I would get almost to the finder, then system
error ID=01 would show up. It turns out that after reformatting the drive
it would work until a certain number of programs/data were uploaded. So
today I reformatted and uploaded one at a time to find the culprit.
And here is the lineup, judge them as you will:
BeepInit and SoundInit
"Recognize either of these fellows, ma'am..." :)
They are public domain INITs from BCS. Whatever you do, don't put them in the
system folder of a Mac II boot disk, hard or floppy. They don't work. I
didn't realize that they were the same kind of INITs that the Mac II uses
automatically, even if you don't install them with a resource editor.
So, as the emperor said in "Amadeus,"
"There it is..."
Thanks a lot to everyone who sent advice!
