I am in the process of writing a program to remotely demonstrate our high speed text search machine. I have chosen the Macintosh as the host of this demo because of its MMI standards and because it is easily transported. I have chosen to use tcp/ip communications and the SLIP protocol to manage the communications line. I chose tcp/ip because that is the way clients interact with our search machine now, and I am hoping that the Mac MMI can easily be ported to an Ethernet based connection. Now for my question... 1) Has anyone implemented a SLIP driver for the Macintosh? ( I am familiar with Mikel Matthews port of a PC based SLIP program. It is difficult to integrate smoothly into the Mac's Event Driven program style. ) 2) Has it been implemented in such a way as to work with any (Apples?) ethernet drivers. That is to say it appears as an additional interface? I am familiar (some what) with SLIP on the Sun, and it is implemented as an additional interface allowing most of the protocol work to be done by existing network drivers. thanks, Larry Gouger (213) 297-3542 or see .signature below for UUCP routing... -- -larry. --------------------------------------- Larry Gouger TRW Inc., CoyoteWorks Redondo Beach, CA ...!{trwrb,cit-vax}!wiley!larry
