I think I am fairly skilled at MacUse, but there was one thing I had heard was possible that I could never quite make happen, and it's perfect for the discussion on Apple's tendency to implement undocumented power keys. I just found out that in order to put a font or DA in a particular application, not storage folder or system file, you hold down Option while clicking Open. This will bring to the HFS window all files, not just the ones appropriate to Fonts or DAs. Millions of you will say "Duh - I knew that." I didn't, however, but to persuade myself I wasn't crazy I checked my "Macintosh Utilities User's Guide." No mention of the feature whatsoever, never mind on how to accomplish it. They do, however, mention holding down Option while starting the program in order to bring it up with DAs rather than Fonts, which is nice I agree but far less useful than tying certain Fonts/DAs to certain applications! Worse, the MacPlus manual states, "Applications you purchase may already be customized with fonts or accessories suited to that particular application. The [Mover] lets you copy these to any other startup disk as well." The novice would have no way of determining how from the supplied documentation.
