[comp.sys.mac] Fixing your own Mac

mike@artsvax.UUCP (Michael Czeiszperger) (10/21/87)

My mac has ceased to work suddenly, because of what I suspect is
an error in the special power strip I purchased from the
same store that sold me the mac. The power strip was one of those
special filtered deals that are supposed to be easier on the computer.

One day, my Mac just stopped working. Upon an examination of the
power strip, it appears that it has somehow shorted itself to ground.
After plugging my Mac in the wall outlet however, it still would not
boot. I suspect that the power strip has done permanent damage.

Unfortunately, the store from which I purchased the Mac Plus wants
$40 to just look at it, let alone fix the problem. As a recent
EE graduate, I have the skills the fix the problem, if I only had
a schematic to work from. (I don't yet have a job or I'd just pay
whatever it costs. Without a Mac, I can't write any coverletters,
resumes, or thankyou notes that go along with interviewing)

So.... Does anyone know if it is possible to obtain a schematic
for the Macintosh Plus? Any help would be appreciated.

If you do indeed find a schematic to work from, let me warn you:

If you do any work on your board, and you have to take the machine in to an
authorized service center, the price will go UP to have that part fixed. Apple
does NOT in ANY way support end users working on their own Macintoshes.
