[comp.sys.mac] A Mix of Issues: Backups, Project Planning, & more!!

mct@rti.UUCP (Millard Taylor) (10/23/87)

Hello Netland,

I've got a real hodge-podge of items today. Some deal with a new
job and others deal with personal interest. Business before pleasure,
I suppose. I'm about to go to work in an environment where the
predominate computing device will be Macs with an occasional Sun
workstation or two. This raises two questions that's I'd like to pose
to the net.

The first question deals with backing up the Mac hard disks. Since
the Sun(s) will have a cartridge tape system, we were hoping to backup
the Mac disks to the Sun's tape drive. Does anyone have any
experience with this? Does the necessary software exist in any form?
(i.e. - PD, Shareware, Commercial) Any help would be appreciated.

Next, we'd like to do project planning on the Mac, but
MacProject seems limited. (This is the opinion of the "boss". I
haven't really used it. I think the main thing that bothered him was
keeping track of people's commitments to various, separate projects.)
We've seen ads for something called "MicroPlanner Plus" but we don't
know anything about it. Again, does anyone have any experience using
this product? What capabilities does it have over MacProject? Can
you "link" various plans together to keep track of shared resources?
Any help would be appreciated.

The third item is about the "Design Demo" that went around on
comp.binaries.mac recently. I missed it and was hoping I could get
a copy off someone. What I'd really like is for someone on the
Arpanet to contact me and tell me where a copy is that I could FTP over.
PLEASE DON'T START MAILING ME COPIES.

Finally, I'd like to remind people about my previous posting on
"undocumented features" on the Mac. I haven't forgotten the issue,
but, I have been out of town a bit recently. However, we seem to
have a volunteer to compile responses in the guise of Karl B.
Klashinshy [klash@uvicctr.UUCP] of the University of Victoria,
Victoria B.C. Canada. A brave and hardy soul. I suggest everyone jot
down their favorite features and get ready to send them to Karl when
he supplies a format. Karl, you should probably prompt people
somewhat and tell them how you'd like them to send the information.

Please respond to me by email. If there is sufficient response, I'll
summarize and post to the net.
