Well, today I went down to my SuperMac dealer and picked up some new Dataframe system software. Included were new versions of Superlaser Spool ,Superspool, and DiskFit. The new diskfit has a better report generating ability: you can now know exactly which backup disk a particular file is located on. More interestingly, however, is a program called Manager (version 3.05) which replaces Change ID, Init, and SuperParker. The "Read Me First" files describes that program as bein compatible with Dataframe 20,30,40, XP20, XP30, XP40, XP60, Mac Plus, Mac SE, Mac II, and Mac 512 w/ scsi port. Well, I decided, lets try out the new (version 3.0) drivers! Boom -- bad mistake if you own a Mac Plus w/ a Dataframe 20 (i.e., not XP20). Now, I can't boot off the hard disk. In fact, I can't have the Dataframe 20 powered up and boot from a floopy. When I tried to boot off the Dataframe 20, the red "in use" light blinks twice, and then the Mac crashes with a SAD MAC (0F000A). Luckily, I still had a copy of Init 2.6 around and installed its drivers back onto my hard disk and now everything is fine again. Anyway, I'm a bit pissed off as SuperMac claiming that their program is compatible with my Mac Plus and a plain Dataframe 20. I think I'll give their technical support line a angry call on Monday, but I thought I should warn anyone who is thinking of putting version 3.0 of the SuperMac driver onto their Dataframe 20 of my experiences.
