(I have not seen any postings on this subject other than those mentioned here as my host has been down for a week and no others have arrived. I will reply to all future psotings by mail. (This is a repost of an article I sent yesterday with a mangled disclaimer that said the opposite of what I meant)) Recently, lriggins@afit-ab.arpa (L. Maurice Riggins) in reply to my message said- | Com'on, Smart Alarms is great! Brian's patch | made it better. You could make it better yet! How? | Fix the volume level problem and add or recommend SpaceWarp F-key or | some other blanker which shuts Smart Alarms up like you said in your | article. The volume level problem was fixed in June 87 (within a day or so of the first complaint we had about this behaviour - Yes, we do listen to suggestions and bug reports) and so Smart Alarms now respects the control panel volume setting always (from version 2.581 I think). Maybe screen blankers won't be necessary - see below - but we will suggest to Imagine that they recommend an appropriate screen blanker; | Your reply didn't address the problem and perhaps made a few folks | wonder why they should "pay" for user-supported software...not even a | "Gee, we'll look at that". Well, "Gee, we'll look at that", and will look seriously at any problems reported. As I said, the volume level problem is fixed, and I will campaign for a installation *option* to disable incessant beeping and so obviate the need for a screen blanker, but its not my program so I can't make any promises... Christopher Chow said - | BTW, I think the correct behavior for SA | is to beep through a screen saver -- that way if the screen is | dimmed because you've been idle you won't miss an appointment. | However, the volume set on the control panel should be obeyed | *** at all times ***. Well, we already comply with your second request. The first is satisfied for almost all screen savers already, as many people have pointed out. ( BTW I don't know what one of the writers meant by "perhaps made a few folks wonder why they should 'pay' for user-supported software" - Smart Alarms is a copyright product and not "user-supported software" in the sense of shareware etc. ) Thank you all for your patience and suggestions in this. Again, "Gee, we'll look at that" any time you ask !! Disclaimer: Although I work for JAM, I receive *NO* financial benefits, directly or indirectly, from Smart Alarms. OK? Public attaboy here and thanks for the responses. Today I ordered an update from Imagine to 2.5 for $10. Was having some problems with Works which 2.5 is supposed to fix. Will let the net know if 2.5 fixes the volume problem (vs 2.581 as mentioned in ref article) -- Maurice lriggins@afit-ab.ARPA
