I'm getting pretty exasperated trying to hook up a DataFrame XP 20 to my 512e with SuperMac's SCSI port. The drive keeps recalibrating itself when the Mac tries to access it. Half of the time, my Mac hangs when booting. I've tried the drive with Mac Plusses, SE's, and II's, and there was no problem with any of those, but on a 512, it just can't be used. I know the data on the disk is there, and most of the time I can get it, but it is slower than a floppy. Has anyone out there experienced this problem? To top it all off, now I'm told that because I got SuperMac's port, I can't upgrade my RAM because the board sits over the CPU. The reason I got it is because I figured that SuperMac's port would definitely be compatible with SuperMac's drive. Some data: DiskTimer reports a 32 decisecond (I think those are the units) seek time instead of 16, like SuperMac's hacked version of DiskTimer II claims. The drive has the anti-static brush, and the serial number is H33... On a related note. My Mac's screen seems to be dying. The brightness control no longer works, and the screen gets dimmer when there is a lot of white on. You can watch the grey pattern dim as a window opens in the finder. Is this my power supply, or my video? (or even anything else?) As you can tell, this weekend has not been very good to me and my Mac. Oh well, thanks for listening. -Christian Net Address: c162-rf@cory.Berkeley.EDU UUCP: ucbvax!cory!c162-rf Disclaimer: UCB seems to like ignoring me anyway, so they probably won't notice what I'm saying.
