I'm in the market for a hard disk, so I've been following the discussion here fairly carefully. A few weeks ago there were a handful of messages about the Rodime 20 Mb drives that MacConnection has been selling, and there seemed to be a lack of concensus about what they actually are. Here are the questions that remain in my mind: (1) What software comes with the drive? (2) Does the drive depend on any modifications to the standard system software? This is the major unresolved question in my mind. I don't want to be stuck waiting for some random company each time Apple changes the system, like HyperDrive owners. (3) In comparing this drive to the Jasmine, does it have any of the Jasmine's nice features, such as the 9 Mb of PD software, or built-in surge suppressor and switched outlets? Does it come formatted and ready to use? (4) Does it have self-parking heads? Parking software? (5) Disk timer results? I'll be happy to get mail on this, or will read followups as they appear. --- David Anderson, CMU CSD graduate student uucp: ..!seismo!cmucspt!dba (?) ARPA: dba@cs.cmu.edu
