[comp.sys.mac] who is the author of the boston & beverly hills fonts?

dsc@izimbra.CSS.GOV (love comes tumbling) (11/04/87)

i may be purchasing a imagwriter // in the near future and i am
interested in getting some letter quality fonts. i know of two ...
boston and beverly hills but i don't know who the authors are of these
fonts. if anyone could supply me with names, addresses and shareware
prices for these products, it would be much appreciated. or, if you
know of an imagewriter font even nicer than those two, i'd like hearing
about that too.

thanks,

dsc

Hi,
The authors and their fonts are:

Boston II: The one that started it all off, and still the best.
The author is Charles Maurer, and his address is:

    Charles E. Maurer
    31 Forsyth Avenue South
    Hamilton, Ontario L8S 2A4
    Canada

and the price is $10.50, american. I dunno the canadian price...

DON'T be fooled by the font Lachine, by Andrew Welch! It's a _very very_ poor
copy of Boston II (so obvious a copy it's really kind of sad that Andrew
expects people to pay him for it...) and it isn't as good.

Beverly Hills: The author and his address:

	Alan D. Hayman
	1425 S. Doheny Dr.,
	Los Angeles, CA 90035

It's a pretty nice update of New York, but its roots are far too
obvious. Much better to use:

	Clairvaux 2.2: By:

	J.W. Leedom
	P.O. Box 9714
	Hollins College
	Roanoke, VA 24020

It's also a pretty obvious copy of New York, but it is very nice, and
when printed really stands as its own font. The funny thing about this font
is that it doesn't look very good on the screen! I compared it to Boston II
in a Write document, and thought "well, still no competition for good old
Boston II", until I printed it out! Very nice.
Unfortunately, the 20 point is nowhere near as nice as the 24 point
(for printing Best quality for (respectively) 10 and 12 point). If you do order
it, complain bitterly about this.

Both Beverly Hills and Clairvaux are $10.

	Enjoy,
	Chris Sterritt
