Does anyone know if a MAC II can be used as a gateway to go from appletalk to TCP/IP and if the hardware and software exists, is planned or is forever vapor. We would like to use a Mac II to go from a small appletalk network to a UNIX system using TCP/IP over ethernet. Responses will be compiled and posted. Jim Ramey

I have not heard of this happening yet, but if you do I also would be interested in the solution. My guess is that not until the Unix-like system for the MacII is available. At that point there will be a lot of interest in such a thing, to allow Mac to Unix mail, file transfer, and such things. The words I am hearing are that the Unix version will take a disk larger than we are used to using on Macs, say 80MB, which would seem to correspond to our other Unix experiences. My question is whether/when the inexpensive disks will be able to offer the performance needed for Unix, or are the ones we're now using fast enough?
