[comp.sys.mac] Mac II and A/UX question

hans@Shasta.STANFORD.EDU (Hans Mulder) (11/11/87)

As usual I ignored all Mac II messages until I suddenly decided to buy a II.

I am buying the Mac specifically to run A/UX, but have to purchase the
machine before A/UX is going to be released. A/UX however is apparently
distributed on a 80MByte disk drive. I do not quit understand that.
Does that mean that I have to buy an additional disk drive when A/UX is
released, or that I have to mail in my 80MB disk drive to have it installed,
or should I not worry about it and assume that it will be distributed on
40MB tapes? If it is not released on tape and you scramble your disk, do
you have to send the disk in again.

What about memory management? Where can I buy a MMU chip in the bay area?
How much do they cost? How long will it be, until I can buy a 68030 board,
which I can plug-in to replace both 020 and MMU?

When is A/UX going to be released? I really want it before the last week
of December, but according to some rumours that is 7 days before the actual
release date.

Thanks in advance for any help.
