[comp.sys.mac] Does Set Startup work anymore?

kwallich@hpsmtc1.HP.COM (Ken Wallich) (11/03/87)

My sincerest apologies if this has been covered before, but if it was,
I didn't see it. I just got my MacII :-) :-) :-), and have finder v5.5
on it. The problem I am having is setting the startup application on
a floppy. It don't work! If I try to "set startup" to anything other
than the finder (the minifinder won't even work), then when I try and
boot from that disc, it smiles, then spits it out. My version of
hypercard works fine (it boots up and starts hypercard), and if I
copy it's system folder to another disc, that disc will boot hypercard.
If I try to "set startup" to hypercard myself, thought, it doesn't do
it! Is my Mac braindamaged? Am I? Is my Finder/System?

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give.

I was having problems with setting startup too.
I would set it, and the Finder would report being unable to
open "Finder Startup", but the setting would take effect. In
my System folder, I found the file "Finder Startup vB6", which
I discovered the Finder was able to create if it was missing,
but I still had problems. Apple updated me to Finder 6.0/System
4.2, and now there are no problems. Even Multifinder works great.
(By the way, the Option-Command "About MultiFinder" easter egg
was a good laugh. Thanks, whoever it was that posted the tip.)
