We wish to purchase large quantities of disks from the U.S. and are after any price information for 3.5" Double-Sided Disks in quantities > 500. We buy from: MacRENTALS, Inc. P.O. Box 4028 Humble, TX 77347 USA Last order we placed (April 1986) we paid $1.28 (US) for double-sided disks in quantities of 100. This is about half the normal quantity 10 retail price. Just be warned that you will get industrial packaging (no 10-disk boxes, possibly not even plastic jackets, no labels) and you get pot-luck colors. Of passing interest is that one box we got was obviously packaged for mass-copy use; all the plastic jackets were split down the middle with a tape running the length of the box attached to all the jackets; just pull the tab on the tape and all the jackets come off in one motion. -- Roy Smith, {allegra,cmcl2,philabs}!phri!roy System Administrator, Public Health Research Institute 455 First Avenue, New York, NY 10016

You can actually do much better than this: MEI/Micro Center 1100 Steelwood Road Columbus, OH 43212-9972 1-800-634-3478 (Visa, MC, etc.) Has double-sided disks of reasonable quality for $.99 each in lots of 50 or more. I don't think the price goes down after 50 at all. I have ordered several lots from them and am in general quite satisfied. Of course, you will not be getting the very greatest disks in the world, but in all the time I've used them I only had one fail on me (and only in one sector, I would never have noticed if I hadn't tried to optimize it with DiskExpress) They are often backordered, so you might have to wait a couple of weeks. The last time I ordered from them I bought 100, and there was one disk missing from each pack of 50. I thought maybe I'd misplaced them and didn't call to complain... the same thing happened to a friend about two weeks later, though, so I'd be sure to count them as soon as they arrive. This person called them up and explained the situation and they were very apologetic and promised to send the extra disks out immediately. You don't get anything but disks and styrofoam peanuts without paying extra: three cents each for labels and five dollars for standard plastic 70-disk holders. -------------------- Garth Snyder UUCP: {seismo!bpa, rutgers!liberty}!swatsun!garth Swarthmore College ARPA: garth@boulder.colorado.edu Swarthmore, PA 19081 ALSO: {hao, nbires}!boulder!garth --------------------

BULK DISK PRICES? CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING:
ComputerWare. Mail Order & Corporate Sales
350 Cambridge Ave. Palo Alto CA 94306
International Orders: (415) 323-7696 (ask for Irmgard or Maggie)
They need: carrier name, Credit card # (name & expiry date)
TELEX# 910-240-8377 (Computerware) FAX # (415) 323-2231
Sony disks 400+ quantity: (from 10/1/87 Price list)
single sided: 1.09 (packaged), 0.96 (bulk)
double sided: 1.55 (packaged), 1.25 (bulk)
NOTE: I've had NO trouble with these single sided SONY made BULK disks.
{Yes, I do understand the issues. So please: no flames, mail, etc.}
Isn't there a local SONY distributor? Or SONY directly?
It seems to this naive soul that Japan is closer to Australia and there
is no (one less) middle man.
BTW: I'm only a happy customer. No other connection with ComputerWare.

Yes, MicroCenter in Columbus, OHIO, may have the best prices around on 3.5" disks, but they aren't SONY!!!! Another place that has excellent prices on floppies is M.A.C., which is located in Berkeley. They have a flat price (independent of quantity) of $1.27 @ for bulk (no labels) Sony double-sided disks. Fuji bulk disks are $1.25 each. Boxed disks with labels run $1.50 @ for either Sony or Fuji. M.A.C. can be reached at 1-800-BUY-AMAC. I've never done any mail-order business with them, but I have purchased items from the store and have been quite satisfied. Sam Cramer {cbosgd, decwrl, hplabs, seismo, ucbvax}!sun!cramer cramer@sun.com

Their number for international sales is (415) 323-7696. Ask for Irmgard or Maggie. They have on the front of their catalog a price of $1.55 each (pacakaged), and $1.25 each (bulk) for 400, 3.5, Dbl-sided, dbl-density disks. Good Luck. Jim Collymore

I have gotten around 300 disks from MacRentals and haven't had any problem with their disks or service at all. They are real good disks, not the generic brand like you normally get from Bulk disk order, but SONY, which is very good brand. The last I checked they have double-sided disks for $1.22 each for a bulk of 100 disks. No, they don't come with labels and yes they do come in variety of colors. Currently I have 100 beige ones, 100 blue ones and 100 white ones. Sherry Yang
