[comp.sys.mac] A/UX disk space requirements

newton@cit-vax.Caltech.Edu (Mike Newton) (11/16/87)

Regarding the request about A/UX disk space:

Out of a 80MByte Quantum, expect only about 10 Meg of usable space
in the final release....

This is partly due to the distribution size (~ <50M), swapping area (10M),
MacOS partition (?2-4Meg), disk map layouts, ...

Note: this is also with 'compressed' man pages....

Note tha the man pages, and often the text processing support (i.e. troff)
can be deleted to save mucho room.

There are usually lots of "marginal" programs that most people won't ever
use.
