[comp.sys.mac] printing on UNIX LaserWriter

seung@husc8.HARVARD.EDU (Seung) (11/14/87)

Thanks to all who replied to my request for help printing Mac files
on a UNIX LaserWriter. I got a variety of explanations why it does not
work just to send LaserPrep followed by the Mac PostScript file. First,
the smoothing algorithm supposedly messes things up. Second, the Mac
sometimes generates 8-bit characters, which is a no-no in PostScript.
Third, LaserPrep stays resident in the LaserWriter, thereby messing
things up for UNIX.

Armed with this knowledge, I tried to hack LaserPrep. Nothing worked.
However, Brian Powell's hacked LaserPrep works beautifully. It can be
obtained via anonymous ftp of the file ~ftp/mac/paintps-update-4.0.shar
from sally.utexas.edu. I still don't know exactly what was wrong,
but I'm having no trouble printing!

Gratefully yours,
Sebastian

I'm looking for a program (for the Mac) that can emulates
the Tektronix 4014 or 4128 (color version on MacII?).
Does anyone have any info such products or the companies
      that makes them?

      Thanks in advance.
