Following the philosophy that a happy employee is a good employee, it looks as though they're going to get me a Mac II for work. If I do get one, it will be a fairly loaded package, intended to run UNIX when the time is right. My question is: wanting to have some compatibility with a machine at home, but not having enough money to duplicate the work system, could I get an Atari ST and Magic Sac for home use and still be able to use stuff created on each machine interchangeably? Thanks, Charlie Neil

You might consider buying a used MacPlus in the $1100 range. Maybe you can find an ex-student who will sell you his/hers? You want at least 1 Meg of memory + more than 1 disk drive. And you'll eventually want a hard disk (something like 70% of Mac owners have them). This is probably safer than going with the Magic Sac. Your machine will run the most Mac Software. You will not have to upgrade your Magic Sac (how?) when Apple upgrades the ROMS (periodically...) However, if you're going to be running UNIX mostly, it's probably hopeless to buy anything less than a Mac II for your home....
