We are looking for a hard disk backup program that
makes a backup of the total hd to a UNIX machine (SUN).
The program has to do something like:
-> SEND a TAR-ARCHIVE of the Mac filetree COMPRESSED to the Modem Port
(a combination of Kermit/Xmodem + TAR + Compress + macbin).
If such a program exists we would like to hear about it
or, if it doesn't, could anybody supply us with
the source code (C preferred) of the macbin program and
of a program that walks through the Mac file tree.
This would be very helpful when we are going to develop
the program ourselves (no commercial objectives).
We have already public domain source of the TAR, XYZmodem, and Compress
programs which were posted to the net.
Our idea is that the program TARs MacIntosh files with their data and
resource fork as compressed macbin files. This allows us to extract
files from the TAR archives with the normal UNIX utilities.
Individual files can in this way be restored on the Mac using,
e.g. Freeterm.
Peter.
