AppleColor High-Res RGB Monitor Display
=======================================
Recently we have received a number of questions about the MacII Color Monitor
and a "line" that shows up on the bottom 1/3 of the screen.

This line is showing up on the lower third of the RGB screen while a full white
screen is being displayed, for example, when a folder is opened up to full
screen size on the desktop.

This line is inherent to Sony Trinitron CRT design and is NOT a manufacturing,
CPU or video card problem. The grey line is caused by a thin horizontal wire in
the CRT that is required to stabilize the vertical grid of fine wires that act
as a color mask in the Trinitron design.

This design and Sony were chosen for Sony's ability to mass produce a very high
quality CRT that met Apple's demanding electrical, production, and performance
specifications following an extensive vendor search.

MacII Miniatures - Contributed by Debbie Van Gronigen, MSR, Nashville
================
The 8/28 Tech Tidbits mentions several bit-mapped graphics programs that do work
on the Macintosh II with the proper monitor setting. I've discovered that
HyperCard requires the 2 bit mode as well, or you'll get those same 1x1
minatures of the Home Card. [Thanks Debbie!]

LaserWriter ROM Rev 47 Confusion
================================
There seems to be some confusion about the new LaserWriter ROMS. We hope this
recap will help resolve some of the questions you may have.

Overview

The new ROMs incorporate the Rev 47 PostScript Code. This new code provides for
the construction of fonts up to 25% faster and handles bit map graphis up to
35-40% faster.

Options for Upgrading

* Version 47 Postcript is to be installed in BOTH the LaswerWriter and the
LaserWriter Plus. This is a dealer installation. Finished goods is now selling
the LaserWriter with four 1M Rev 47 ROMs, and the LaserWriter Plus with eight 1M
Rev 47 ROMs.

- LaserWriter Owners - The new ROMs are included in the LaserWriter Plus Upgrade
Kit (MO191) and LaserWriter owners, therefore can obtain the new ROMs by
upgrading their LaserWriter to a LaserWriter Plus. In other words, the only way
a LaserWriter owner can obtain the new ROMS is by upgrading to a LaserWriter
Plus.

-LaserWriter Plus Owners can obtain the new ROMs by purchasing the LaserWriter
Plus Upgrade Kit at a reduced price.

Lost Our Password - Call a Locksmith?
=====================================
Q: We lost our Admin key for AppleShare, and didn't write it down anywhere. Do
we have to start from scratch? Please say we don't!

A: No, you won't have to start from scratch, although there are some seven or
eight steps you must complete in order to correct your problem. The
step-by-step procedure is outlined on Page 137 of your AppleShare
Administrator's Guide. You will have to make sure that you have a backup copy
of the Users & Groups file before you start. Refer to the "Backing Up Users and
Groups Lists" section of the manual in Chapter 2 for more information.

    this package provides instant visual access to all steps of program
    development. It is ideal for programming serially networked MCS-51 based
    devices or for high-speed data collection and appliance control via

An edited version of Tech Tidbits is now reaching 800+ User's Groups...The first
comment received after Tidbits was posted..."THANKS!!! This is great! Please
send more!" And when Tidbits made its debut on on-line services such as
CompuServe, and linked bulletin board services such as ProLine, UseNet, etc.,
the first comment back was "Great Stuff! Keep it Coming!"

Customer enters computer store and after some looking around, settles on a box
of printer paper. As the salesperson is ringing up the purchase, the customer
looks around with a puzzled expression. "Is something wrong?" asks the
salesperson. "Yes," replies the customer. "Don't I get a printer to go with
the paper?" - Submitted by Terry Shawn

"Customer Calls on Phone: I Have an Apple IIe for 2 years but I never used it.
Now I would like to take some classes."
We asked her what software she had. Her response?
"I got Datalife and a Disk Bank!"
[So - does YOUR dealership provide computer classes in Verbatim Datalife
diskettes and Disk Bank diskette storage boxes?]

--------------------------

The Faithful "Post It"
=====================
A customer had brought a //c into the store complaining that she was having
some problems with the disk drive. When we put her machine on the bench and
found it would not boot, we were about to exchange the drive assembly, and in
the process of doing so, we found the true cause of her problem...

A small (1" X 1") "post-it" had somehow managed to attach itself perfectly on
the read/write head and would follow said mechaism back and forth across the
disk. I am going to recommend he place a similar note on the front of the
computer to remind him to check his diskettes in the future for any more such
'stowaways'......Art Grant, Service Manager, Personal Computer Center Ocala

Bus Lines
=========
I recieved a letter from an end user stating that his previously owned Mac 512
was faster than his present one. I gave him some suggestions on the possible
causes of the problem: different versions of system software or applications,
or maybe the difference between a Mac 512k and a Mac 512k enhanced, and if all
things are the same, it could be a hardware problem, noisy bus lines that cause
the computer to continually retry. I received a letter back saying that he's
using the same software, same model computer, same everything. And yes, he
checked, there are NO bus lines running near his home! - Contributed by Lauri
Fischer - Thanks Lauri!
