I have a question about the Apple LaserWriter Plus and maybe someone out in NetLand can help me... We have a LW+ in my office attached to a Mac Plus. We also have a Convergent Technology system, with a master workstation and two cluster work stations. We would like to use the LaserWriter in its Diablo emulation mode on the Convergent system, and save the cost of another laser printer. I had no problem getting the printer to work in the Diablo mode. Convergent uses a print spooler that requires installation of a printer configuration file. Once the printer is on, and the spooler installed, the printer will print. However, the printer, after it is initialized, will drop offline after 15 minutes or so. In order for the printer to function again, the printer has to be reinitialized by the spooler on the Convergent. This is a pain. What I'm looking for (I think) is a patch to printer's ROM that will allow it stay on line and in emulation mode until I turn it off or reinitialize the printer for use on AppleTalk.
