Hi, We have a major problem with MacEqn -- it doesn't work on a Mac SE. What happens is that you use it for a while with MacWrite and then, without warning it causes an ID=02, crashing the Mac and corrupting the MacWrite file. We've tried ringing Software for Recognition Technologies, but all we get is an answer phone. That's not helpful, especially when you're on the other side of the world. This is a fairly serious problem -- the Maths Department has recently upgraded to Hard Disk SEs and are somewhat miffed that they can't do WP on them. Can anyone on the net help? What we need to know is: 1) What is the status of MacEqn ? 2) Are Software for Recognition Technologies still in business? 3) Is this a known problem? 4) Is there a fix ? 5) What alternatives do we have ? Try MathType. I've used four different equation word processors (MacEqn, Expressionist, MathType and something else) in my search for the best of this genre, and I found MathType to be the best by far. TeXtures is actually even better but much more difficult to use. MathType comes as an application and a DA that "hooks" to the application. There is a demo available that does everything the real product does but the former will randomly substitute characters when you try to paste an equation to the clipboard.
