I need a statistical package, and I'd rather not use Reed College's VAX, because it's hard to get on at certain times of the year. Something that would run on a Mac Plus with a hard drive would be easier to deal with. I have no idea what's out there. Will I need to buy a database package too? Have there been any articles in the magazines about this? In terms of projects, the biggest I'll be doing is a survey of the ~1000 people who'll be pledging money to KBOO-FM this March. Asking each listener what shows they listen to regularly (KBOO has about 50 or 60 shows each week), what they listen to occasionally. Tabulate this data and then analyze what times of the day are most popular and see if there's an unpopular show on at a popular time. See whether the same people are listening to certain shows, maybe put them on the same night. Analyze regarding $ pledged, age, sex, income, maybe even race (how many non-Hispanics listen to the Hispanic shows? Whites listening to soul? Native Americans listening to Western swing...) Some questions regarding possible new shows to judge listener interest. In other words, it's big and messy. Any Reedies want to help? Maybe a thesis topic in statistics? I'll post this again closer to when I'll be doing the survey. -- "I'm afraid I've finally become what I had merely intended to seem." -Wilhelm von Humboldt, 1831 Dave Kehoe tektronix!reed!kehoe (503) 230-9454
