[comp.sys.mac] MicroPhone vs. VersaTerm: Can anyone comment?

peter@aucs.UUCP (Peter Steele) (01/07/88)

I am debating as to whether I should buy MicroPhone or VersaTerm for
a communications package. If anyone has had an opportunity to try
these, I'd like your comments. Specially,

1. Which costs more? Is there a mail order house that sells them?

2. How do they handle large screen displays. Can you have a "virtual"
VT-100 with a 90 by 132 (or whatever) terminal window. That would
   be really great.

3. What is their effective baud rate (throughput) when using it as
a terminal at 9600 baud. Something less than 9600 I suspect, but
   how much less.

4. I know MicroPhone has excellent procedures and you can invoke
them by either keyboard, buttons, or menu. How about VersaTerm?

5. Is VersaTerm Pro (I believe that's the newest version) only for
the Mac II or will it work on lesser machines (an SE)? The add
I saw seemed to indicate Mac II only???

6. What file transfer protocols are supported?

7. What other features make one better than the other?

That's enough I guess. I've narrowed it down to these two as the
best available but need more information before buying. If anyone
knows of a comparable package, let me know.
