Is this a possible problem with RR10.3 since I think it worked fine with RR9.4? My problem is that vi, rn, and more seem to lose 2 lines of text at the top of the screen. In vi you can move the cursor up to the top two lines but they seem to be hidden under the status bar. I tryed using stty to make the term 2 lines less but that gave me 2 less lines at the bottom of the screen and did nothing for the top 2 lines. What is the problem here?? If anyone knows a fix or has a termcap (vt100) that works with RR10.3 please let me know. >chuq --patm-- *********************************************************** usual disclaimers--- Patrick Mead ogcvax!inteloa!omepd!patm ***********************************************************

The standard vt100 (also known at vt100-am) termcap has the 'pt' option set, which tells the system that this vt100 uses hardware tabs. Red Ryder doesn't deal with this well. There are two ways to fix it. You can go in to /etc/termcap and munge out the pt option, which gives you a non-standard termcap entry, or you can turn off hardware tabs with "stty -tabs" (which is what I did.) chuq Chuq "Fixed in 4.0" Von Rospach chuq@sun.COM Delphi: CHUQ What do you mean 'You don't really want to hurt her?' I don't know what the problem is, but I just use the standard vt100 termcap that is on our Pyramid and RR10.3 is the FIRST release of RR where all of the editing in vi works properly. Up until now, scrolling and deleting lines messed it all up, now all is fine. Dennis Cohen

How can I get RR 10.3? I have RR 10.0 (after paying $40 for 9.4 with the promise of free upgrades for eternity, and then paying $20 for 10.0 a year and a half and no free upgrades later, I sure as hell wouldn't pay Scott Watson any more to upgrade for bug fixes. But he never notified me that an upgrade was available.) Does 10.3 run at more than 1200 Baud? (I know 10.0 can set the port to 9600, but it still runs at 1200, with a lot of ^S ^Q handshaking) RR 10.0 is ridiculously slow. Is anybody willing to send me a RR 10.3 disk for the $5 a new disk, postage, handling, etc would take? I am willing to include a photocopy of the front page of my manual to prove ownership. To get registered as a RR owner and get notification of upgrades (and the upgrades themselves) you have to join GEnie and the Freesoft roundtable. Instructions for doing this were in my Red Ryder box (and I joined last night, as a matter of fact). If you live in the US or Canada, this is the only way to get RR info and upgrades. GEnie waives their normal $18.00 signup fee for people joining this way, by the way. >Does 10.3 run at more than 1200 Baud? I have had very limited experience with RR 10.3 (used a friend's copy for a bit to see if I wanted to buy it or not). It was very slow and even got behind at 2400 baud. I think that he should spend less of his processing time worrying about what the user is doing, and get on with processing the throughput. For instance, it is a nice thing that you can us DA's during downloads, but you will be slowing the download considerably! I have been told by many sources that Versaterm is the answer for high-speed telecommunications. It does get a little behind at 9600 baud, but they say it is tolerable. I suppose I should use the standard disclaimer here as I did slam a product, so: These opinions are mine. The names have been changed to protect the insane. - Ghoti
