[comp.sys.mac] MenuClock 101 and the Mac II

harrow@bagels.dec.com (Jeff Harrow, NCSE BXB1-2/E02 DTN=293-5128) (01/12/88)

The newest menu clock (MenuClock 101, or something like that) is
great and does, indeed work fine on a Mac II.

However (knew that was coming, didn't you), when the menu bar is
other than white, the menu clock's numerals are enclosed by a
rectangle of white.

Is it possible to write the time numerals to the menubar using a
mode that will matte the numerals over the menubar, rather than
creating the white rectangle?

Additionally, instead of just writing them in black, why not
assume menu bars of varying colors and perhaps write the numerals
in the INVERSE of the background color, thereby guaranteeing that
they will always be visible?

Always another mod...

The current version of Menu Clock, version 3.1, should work just fine on
all macs, even mac IIs with multiple video cards. However, it is supposed
to draw the clock on the menu bar only if the application gives it
permission to draw and if it thinks there is a menu bar. On a Mac II, if
you color the menu bar, the current version should think there is no menu
bar there.

I will soon be fixing it to handle colored menu bars, and to use the
international package to draw the time in your national format (so, for
example, French users will automatically get French format time.) It will
also use the correct font, so Radius users, who use a system font larger
than Chicago 12 will see the clock in the same font. Also in
the works is a utility to let you override the current format, and to turn
the clock on and off while your mac is running.
