[comp.sys.mac] Zapping PRAM/bad serial port

steele@thorin.cs.unc.edu (Oliver Steele) (01/12/88)

Does control-command-option-shift-"Control Panel" clear the
entire parameter RAM on an SE or II? In other words, if
my Mac acts flakey, and it runs a program differently when
booted from a floppy after PRAM has been zapped than an
identically configured Mac, recently zapped, booted from the
same floppy does, does this mean that the difference is
absolutely positively hardware?

Specifically, uw tells me 'Can't load the RAM serial driver'
(with a few letters chopped off either end of the message) and
MacTerminal says 'Neither the modem port nor the printer port
is available' (and then locks up and beeps forever). I'd
like to know if this could be because of something in PRAM that
sticks around through zaps, and I'm curious about the more
general question as well.

Mail responses if you have anything beyond speculation, and
I'll post if there's interest.
