I have a question about the Mail Merge on Microsoft Word and would appreciate any help I can get. It seems that when you have a record that does not contain one of the fields you have set up, Word still generates a line feed when inserting the record , at the point where you have left the empty field. Is there anyway to suppress this line-feed? A conditional perhaps? Thanks in advance. Michael Weinberger mw28@andrew.cmu.edu

'88, Pg 205) Ezra Shapiro goes on for 2 paragraphs about the same problem with Word 3.01. His solution: (after trying Micorsoft Works, FileMaker Plus, Double Helix & Omnis 3 Plus) was to use Reflex Plus. You may not have an answer to your problem, but at least you have company. -- "there's no success like failure and failure's no success at all" Bob Dylan Richard Perlman 1E300 2600 Camino Ramon, San Ramon, CA 94583 (415) 823-1398 uucp {ames,pyramid,ihnp4,lll-crg,dual}!ptsfa!perl || ceo rdperlman:8

His solution: >(after trying Micorsoft Works, FileMaker Plus, Double Helix & >Omnis 3 Plus) was to use Reflex Plus. You may not have an answer >to your problem, but at least you have company. > I think this should work for you (I got this from Feb 86 issue of MacWorld page 196, under section "Open Window"). You have to omit the merge characters after the ELSE statements. For example, if an address contains a field called Title positioned between the Name and Company fields, but John Smith's database record contains no title, this would print a blank line between John Smith's name and his company name: <<name>> <<IF position>><<position>> <<ELSE>> <<ENDIF>><<IF organization>><<organization>> <<ELSE>> <<ENDIF>><<street address>> <<city>>,<<state>> <<zip>> You should change to this: <<name>> <<IF position>><<position>> <<ELSE <<ENDIF>><<IF organization>><<organization>> <<ELSE <<ENDIF>><<street address>> <<city>>,<<state>> <<zip>> Hope this works. Try something like: ...blahblahblah<IF field=""><ELSE><field> <ENDIF>blahdeblahdeblah... jjc -- john j. chew (v3.0) poslfit@gpu.utcs.toronto.edu +1 416 463 5403 (300/1200 bps) poslfit@utorgpu.bitnet {cbosgd, decvax, mnetor, utai, utcsri,{allegra, linus}!utzoo}!utgpu!poslfit "Script-G for open, sub-delta for durchschnitt"
