Re files on SUMEX: I've downloaded a buncha files from SUMEX over the INTERNET, to an HP-UX machine (UN*X). I used ftp in binary mode, and just have them sitting here, waiting to get to my Mac. I gottem, but I dunno' howta usem. I tried RedRyder 9.4, with xmodem, umodem at the HP-UX end, and got the files over. They don't look very useful on the Mac, so I tried Packit 3, and Unpit, with no luck. I've got 5MB of this stuff (1:00 AM to 6:00 AM session, one cold morning), and I'm breathing heavily in anticipation. Help!!! Scott Bayes bayes@hpfclw

Re files on SUMEX: BTW, I should mention that most of these files have .hqx suffixes, and similar ones I can't remember now Scott Bayes bayes@hpfclw

Re the SUMEX files I can't read: Whoa Nellie! Stop! Uncle! Thanks everyone. I got a lot of offers of help, and a lot of good advice on what to do with these puppies. Unfortunately, yours truly messed up (error 299: excessive operator ignorance). The problem was that I had ftp'd the files using binary mode. SUMEX has a very different word size from the HP-UX machine I used, and the bits were all where they shouldn't be. Trying it in ASCII mode showed good ol' familiar Binhex files. I think I'm fine from here. Again, thank you to all who answered my plea, too many to remember or name here. Scott Bayes Trivia question: "Farewell Aunty Jack, We know you'll be back." What are the next 2 lines? No Aussie answers, please. And who or what is Auntie? (Not Auntie Jack) bayes@hpfclw
