[comp.sys.mac] KanjiTalk on an SE or Mac II?

derek@gucis.oz (Derek Austin) (01/25/88)

The version of KanjiTalk available in Australia is incorporated into
a rather antique system.

Is anyone running KanjiTalk on an SE or Mac II?

If you are, could you please send me information about where you got it
and how it's going? I'm particularly interested in anyone running their
systems as multilingual Macs, swapping often from the Roman to Kanji
script manager. I'd also be VERY interested in anyone that is doing
Japanese DeskTop publishing.

Many thanks,

	derek

Unfortunately, KanjiTalk is _only_ available with a rather antique
System file. When I contacted APDA, they said they hoped to have
KanjiTalk on the newer system in about 6 months.

I also contacted Apple. They apologised, but offered no help.

Since I am running Multifinder on a 2.5 Meg Mac+, I really need
the newest System. Too bad Apple is missing the boat on this.

If you ever find a solution, please post it here.

Thanks from Saipan in the Mariana Islands.

Dear Folks -

International system software releases lag behined US system
software releases from six months to a year.
At present KanjiTalk 1.1 is shipping from APDA, as part of the Kanji
Macintosh System Software. This is based on the last Macintosh Plus system
software. We plan to ship in the next six months KanjiTalk 2.0 from APDA as
part of the Kanji Macintosh System Software, which is based on System 4.1 and
finder 5.5. It is not MultiFinder compatable. Before we can ship this
package from APDA, we need an English language usage note written, and as
soon as that note is ready it will ship from APDA.
The issues which I have outlined above also able to HanziTalk,
HangulTalk, Arabic Interface System, and Hebrew Interface System. We are
working on making all of these products available from APDA, but we can't
just slap a copy of a disk into a box. I hope that this message will help
you understand some of the delays involved in making international system
software available from APDA.
