[comp.sys.mac] Insurance for Computers, Software,

We have state farm and the insurance did not cover a $5,000 computer
system (a Mac II). Obviously, if you have a CRAY-1 in your home, it
is not covered. MAKE SURE you and the agent are communicating well.
When he says "It's covered" he may be thinking $200 Commodore C-64.
You may be thinking $3,000 Macintosh with software.

I think every homeowner's policy allows you to purchase extra
coverage. This may be cheaper than buying coverage from a "computer
insurance" company. However, look out for replacement-cost versus
depreciated-value policies.

If you care enough to buy insurance, then buy an Apple security kit
and use it. To save money, you can build your own kit with a bicycle
cable and some locks. This is described in a recent issue of
Macazine.
