[comp.sys.mac] New SE fan & screen jitter?

djs@mit-amt.MEDIA.MIT.EDU (David J. Sturman) (02/17/88)

I have heard that installation of the Apple fan upgrade in the SE makes
the machine quieter, but does not handle the screen jitter problem.
The SE fan upgrade is more expensive then the 3rd party fans which I've
heard do handle the screen jitter problems. What is the difference in
the fans/electronics that may be at the root of this? Any experience
or opinions out there as to whether I'm better off with the Apple fan
upgrade or the third party upgrade?

Thanks,

The new fan is a standard rotary vs the squirl cage. They also put in a new
CRT yoke board which is part of the problem with jitter and it should fix it.

SE fan kits (Apple)
I just had two SE's upgraded and they are great! The fan noise is not even
noticeable and the screen jitter is gone. The kit has a fan and a new
vertical video card (installs on the end of the CRT). I highly recommend
getting this upgrade.
