I don't know if this is old news or not by the time it hits your site, but anyway: Jerry Borrel, the editor of MacWorld, was at the Seattle dBUG (downtown Business User's Group) meeting last night, doing a wonderful rundown on the Expo, and ended it with some news to us (or at least me -- MacWeek hasn't come this way yet) -- Ashton Tate, the makers of Lotus 1-2-3 and other products, have bought FullWrite Professional. If I understand it correctly, they've bought Ann Arbor, so they get FullPaint also (big whoop). His other FullWrite news was that he has been working with the latest version they've sent MacWorld, and he cannot break it (he said he was able to in earlier versions easily). His description of it is VERY finished, and thus coming out very shortly (well, if logic prevails, anyway). Personal observation about Borrel: this guy really knows his stuff. Ran through the new products and technology introduced at Expo with a very good grasp of what each meant to users, and what the limitations of the software was -- as if it was his business to know (which it is). I don't get that from Shapiro or Bobker -- enthusiastic, but not the background or the "deep background". He has a dweeb for a publisher, but his articles and his personal appearance have gotten me out of the MacUser camp and back into MacWorld (now if they could just get rid of those "People magazine" Mac articles...). PS He was very impressed by a new 3-D package called something like Dreams or something -- anyone know more about it? I still have and like and use Pro3D by Enabling Technologies, but I have no idea if they're still in business (program still works fine...). PPS Got TRUST & BETRAYAL (Legacy of Syboot) and THE FOOL'S ERRAND yesterday. Must agree with the other positive reviews about FOOL'S ERRAND -- great if you like puzzles, and some real personality here! Will provide more info on TRUST & BETRAYAL after playing it at higher levels.
